that time of year

So, we got new family pictures.

My cousin Amanda, from pie in the sky, is amazing.

Jason and I, are not. This is what she had to work with when she asked for a "kissing" one.

And the kids? Hilarious! As Amanda conceded about her own most recent family picture adventures, "Well, it's a family picture, cause we're all in it." I concur.
Unfortunately,
sometimes I get this face and look like Sabrina Teenage Witch, with one glass eye and one lazy eye, and Jason, well, looks a little "grunt like you're birthing a baby"-ish.

Yes, we are all in it.

There are a thousand adorable pictures of the kids, so I might go ahead and do a Christmas card, there's a first for everything, right? If not, I'll just post more later.

Belated Birthday Fantastic-ness

Okay, it's long, but they're worth celebrating!

Reese and Nate have turned 2!

Um, have you seen how cute they are recently? They are big kids! I used to say I wanted a time machine to get them from here,
to here:
Now, I although it has been a long road and I've aged horribly, it has been 100% worth it! I have loved every stage and every bit of progress they have made!

Okay, random information and some pictures:

Reese thinks he is funny. He loves attention and will do just about anything to get it. He had a rougher go of it at first and has pulled through like a champ. He has been a bit delayed with development, but it making progress. He has been walking great for a couple of months now and just today, I saw him run! So fun! Unfortunately, although he loves attention, he really does not love working. He hates therapy and will not perform for any of his therapists, so they don't think he can do anything. He cries and cries with the Wednesday therapist, and won't even be near her unless my mom is sitting next to him with her hand on his back the entire time. When he isn't getting what he thinks is enough attention, he will growl a giant growl (thanks to his floppy air-way, like a whoopee cushion) and then smile waiting for a laugh. He is a doll.

Nate is so stubborn. It kills me how serious he appears all the time. He really can do and say a lot, but he will not perform. For anyone. For anything. If it's his idea, sure, he'll do it, but he won't do it again if you ask him to. He is such a sweetheart and loves to cuddle, but no one except for family will ever know that. Nate is always sucking on his middle and ring fingers. While sucking, he scratches and picks at his face with his index and pinky fingers so he has little scratches all over his face, all the time. I keep his nails trimmed short and have tried putting band-aids on his face so he couldn't get to skin, but he just scratches around it and picks it off. He is a smarty and a thinker and will figure anything out, just to prove you wrong. I love watching him think and play.

These boys love hats and glasses.
They love to eat
and separate their food, who knew that was an inherited trait?(P.S. Things they don't want go in the cupholder, if I'm lucky, otherwise it's on the ground.)

They are talking a lot. Reese's first word was, "what-dat?" and Nate's, "look!" followed shortly with, "Oakley." He'd say it to himself over and over all day.

Now, what I hear all day is, "Mom!" "Ta-Da!" Which usually looks like this:or this.
One funny tradition they've decided on related to this "ta-da" is whoever is in the smaller highchair finishes their food quickly and then climbs into the other highchair and sits on the
person in there. Neither ever complains when they are the sat-on. I still don't get it.

The thing I love so much is that they love each other so much. The other day, Nate sat on the trike and was bummed that he couldn't peddle. Reese came right over and started pushing him around. Now doesn't that just make you smile?! I love these boys!!

Yowzers!

It's funny, okay?Okay, maybe not to him in 13 years, but it really makes me laugh.

Thank heavens for surgery today to make those puppies straight! He'll still wear the glasses, because he's farsighted, and they're cute (or not.)

I'll post some bloody eye-ball pictures after. Barf.

October Break!!

Although our kids aren't in real school yet, we were dying to get out of town, and were able to go with our family to California to beat the heat! It was so fun, and one of the best vacations ever!

While there, we stayed at the Gage House, which was perfect for all the kids to run and play. Tons of room inside, and lots of lush grass outside. The kids were in heaven. The best thing about this vacation was how relaxed it was. We had no plans. I was in heaven! We woke up when we wanted (when we were tired of "shshing" the babies) and ate a delicious breakfast of eggs and breakfast meats (I was in love, as I am pretty much the dog from the Beggin' Strips commercial, "Bacon!") and hashbrowns. My brother-in-law, Tim is a fantastic cook, and was gracious enough to take over meal time. I know, right?! Like I said, best vacation ever!
So, yes, playing non stop, romping in the grass, blowing the grass,
Nate smiling (had to post for documentation, because he usually looks like this:)okay, he's smiling here too, but it's just because he threw a handful of sand onto Reese's head,
boogie boarding,

family pictures, nerf guns,
orangutanes,
the Midwayand Coaster ride. All in all, it was a blast. I call dibbs on going again next year!

Happy Halloween!

5 crows all shiny black
Sat on a scarecrows back
Eating the most delicious corn "Kaw, Kaw"
Scarecrow he shouted, "Boo!"
One crow, away he flew
Now there are 4 black shiny crows "Kaw, Kaw"

So, maybe we just had 2 crows all shiny black, and maybe doing face paint is a lot harder than it should be, and maybe my babies will hate me for making them wear feathered bloomers.BUT, aren't their little bird leggies so cute?! And, Oakley couldn't have been happier to be a "scary scarecrow" like he had been talking about for months. Yay! It's done!!

All in a Day's Work

Yesterday may go down in Palmer Family History as the most productive day we've had. I had a mission in mind, and that was to clean out the garage. This incorporated several other tasks I've wanted to accomplish.

1- paint this dresser so we could move it out of the garage and into Oakley's room.
2- for some reason that reminded me to put door stops behind all the doors that didn't have them.
3- take the rack off Jason's truck (which Oakley now calls "Mom's work truck") so we could park it in the garage. (Never in the 4.5 years living here have we had 2 cars in our 3 car garage.)
Clean garage with 2 cars and everything put away all the way and all dead crickets swept up.(Hello truck rack, do you want to find a new home?) (Thanks Uncle Reid for the lawnmower, I'm soo excited!!)

Additionally, we wanted to level the backyard so that water wouldn't pool and our rye would grow.
Hmmm..... fail. We'll continue to work on that.

Oh, and Jason started out the day with a 12 mile run. No biggie, right? He didn't even complain once throughout the day how tired he was. He is amazing!
Me? I started out the day with a couple dozen doughnut holes. I never complained once throughout the day how full I was.

P.S. A giant thanks to Kevvie-Baby who helped muscle the truck rack off and who shoveled tons of dirt into and then out of the truck and then used the big leveler rake that attacked his arm and gave him a rash. You're the best!!

AAAHHHHHHHHHH!

"CAN'T A MOM HAVE ANYTHING NICE?????!!!!!!!"
(quoted from my mom 1975 - 1994-ish, the years when there were little ones trashing everything... ugh, that's nearly 2 decades! Now, it's my turn for the same phrase. I love that I am becoming more like my mom, because that means at some time, I will be awesome.)

So, blogging will be even more minimal than it has been. In fact, it has come to a screeching halt. Why? Well, the camera is out of commission.

Why is that?
Well, I'll set the scene:
Me: unloading the dishwasher as quickly as I can before the twins come to "help."
Oakley: runs in the house from the backyard.
approximately 4 minutes later
Oakley: MMMOOOOMMMM!
Me: What?
Oakley: You're camera's wet!
Me: What?! (walking swiftly towards his voice, finding him in the bathroom, perched with his feet up on the toilet seat with his shorts and undies off dangling my camera by the strap)
Me: What happened?!!?!! >:( (Yes, there was a definite angry scowl.)
Oakley: I was trying to take a picture of my poop, and it fell in the toilet. I have skeets.

So, there you go. I think it's a good excuse.

Viva Sabado!

Reasons why it is my favorite day of the week:
#1:
If you live in Mesa, you have to try 19th Hole's doughnut holes. They are to die for. But, you must get there before us, because we swoop up 3 dozen every Saturday. They are crisp on the outside and so soft and chewy on the inside, perfectly coated in glaze. I look forward to doughnut holes more than I look forward to sleeping in. Saturday is interchangeable in our house with Doughnut Day.
#2:
Bike rides with the family, made possible with the bike bus. We have still gone throughout the blistering summer, but cannot wait for few more weeks for the temperature to be a little nicer. My favorite thing about the bike bus is Nate's participation. He is the biggest scaredy-cat in the world of anything that moves or that he doesn't have control over. A few weeks ago I put him in the front (traditionally Reese's seat) and he was trying to climb up my arms like a cat. I showed him the bell, he rung it, and has claimed the seat as his, with his smug smile.

Only 6 more days! (But maybe tomorrow is an unofficial Doughnut Day due to it being a holiday, right?)
