Last week, my neighbors were out of town and so I got their mail. I thought we got a lot, but I was mistaken. This pile measured 6 inches high and had every single catalog printed during the month of July, and was topped with a box of checks. I loved looking at each catalog from Crate and Barrel to Lillian Vernon to Scouting... what a treat. I was dying to open the checks, just to see what kind they get, but resisted the temptation.
On Friday, I thought about making banana bread. It sounded good, and I thought Oakley would eat it, because he won't eat baby food anymore (apparently he's developed a sophisticated palate at 1) and has no teeth so I need something that will mush easily. I had heard from someone that when your bananas get ripe to put them in the freezer and it keeps them so you don't have to make bread right away. I had noticed that they had been getting continually blacker and didn't think much of it. I got them out to make bread and let them thaw out, but they were like raisin bananas, and it grossed me out too much. Jason was greatly relieved, (he's been freaked out by the bananas for a few months) and I made pancakes instead, and Oakley INHALES them.
Living with boys sometimes sucks. Who wants to walk into this?
To help his future wife, I'm trying to teach Oakley to start putting things away when he gets them out. He's good at getting them out, but not so good at putting away. So, instead I make him sit in a chair with nothing to play with and watch me clean up.
I don't think it's working / my child is so spiritual, I think he's trying to be a shepherd. When are Easter Pageant try outs?
Lastly, today I got home from Target and JoAnns and realized my zipper was down, and I hope it made someone's day (oooh, scary kitty.)

I am laughing OUT LOUD at this post!! You crack me up...
that is funny!
Sara! Where do you come up with this stuff! I laughed so hard at ohh scary cat. I missed you at work, I had no one to make fun of and call Scoot Sock! Looks like you had a fun filled day though, thoses bananas looked delicious. Did you put those in the pancakes still? See you tomorrow bright and too early!
whatever if you thought that was a boring blog!!! You are so funny.... As I was reading your blog, Lee walked in the room and saw only the picture of the frozen black bananas and the toilet and was like.... WHAT?!?! is that? it kind if made my day:)
ps.. how's August 11th-ish for a cousins BBQ? it works for bec and them and us also... becca said you would be gone the weekend b4 but that might work?
Amanda I will speak for all of us and say WE'RE IN! Sara, I like your baby. And I too have been freaked out by your black bananas every time I've opened your freezer, which embarrassingly enough, is a lot. Sorry I pretend to live at your house sometimes. Maybe someday I'll be rich and fabulous...sigh.
Sar- you have to peel your bananas first, then you can freeze them for as long as you want. Your black bananas are pretty gross. Did you open them up? I'm impressed with Oakley's messing abilities! I would probably just leave things out until he figures out how to put it all back. It was fun to hang with you yesterday, you should quit work all together. :)
Amanda, Aug. 11th sounds like a PARTY!! Are we slip and sliding or what? Whatever we do, let's just have a lot of yummy food! We're so excited!
Okay, so maybe your bananas were in the freezer for a little too long. Because I, in my mom-ness, did make banana bread with bananas that looked similar to that. And my mom said that the banana bread is better because they have more flavor being almost really rotten and nasty. Or maybe they turned into banana wine and that is what made it more tasty..
p.s. I didn't realize I had so much power over people when I e-yelled at them. I should try it more often.
Seriously? You are hilarious. I laughed out loud too when I read your blog and I'm sitting at work in a courtroom trying to look professional. Oh well.
Yes your bananas kinda grossed me out too but I am glad you posted something about them and then that Allison said you have to peel them first because I had heard the same thing about the freezer and now I know. I would also like to know like someone else if you put the bananas in your pancakes?
Thanks for telling me go look up the ikea picture - I did and that's exactly what I would like to put on my blog to the passengers of flight #1254.
Yes, lets do get together. Emma starts all day kindergarten on Monday so give me a week to figure out her schedule and Elias' (plus I am volunteering at her school the first week, long story) so then lets do something!!!
Sorry for the novel.
you are SO SO SO funny! i have no idea how you could = that post to boring, because it was highly entertaining, as are all your posts.
oakley, way to be spiritual.
Oh Sara, you've done it again. Your randomness has left my sides splitting. (I love that saying. It makes me sounds like I'm 80.) That banana picture was truly disgusting & little Oakley will be the perfect shepard; if you could just teach him to keep the hay IN the manger.
You are so funny- I have one of those cheap fold up gates permanently blocking the door to my office, and another one that moves around as necessary- currently it blocks the bathroom to keep Emma out of the toothpaste and toilet paper.
dearest sara, my friend with the black hair refers to my friend logan, there's a picture of him in the EFY post. we call him that because last sunday he came to our ward and annie pointed during sacrament meeting saying julia, julia, your friend with the black hair is here!!! and he just shaved his head. so now he doesn't have hair. -Julia
oakley is so cute. I am jealous of your friends mail pile. I love mail. I hope their pile consists of more than bills. I'm really glad oakley is trying to be a shepherd. I think you should provide him with a costume box and see what else he'll dress up as. I think its hilarious!
If I ever need to laugh, I just come to your blog. It cheers me up when I am totally down! I should be paying you. Okay, I have been super lame at updating my blog, but I have read your last two comments and whoah... NEEDY for sure! I most definitely will call you and we will set it up when I come into town. If you can do my teeth, I would love to trade.
Sara I truly think your blog is the only one that can put me into to tears from laughing so hard. I am so glad you shared the toilet and banana pics. It makes me feel a little more normal :)
Sara, I'd love to get together with all the gals. Lisa would be down with it too even though she just had another child. She's always up for stuff like that. I work Mon through Fri 8:00 to 5:00. Saturdays would probably be best for me.
